Dash console conversation
As we all know the P10 has standard
black console dash. In this walk through we will show you how to change
the console dials colour. This walk through has been done with a Nissan
Primera LSX which has a clock instead of a rev counter. The tools you will
need for this job are as follows:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flat head screwdriver
- Scanner
- Photo editing software
- Permanent marker
- Glossy photo card
- Craft knife
- Ruler
First you need to unscrew the screws around the steering
wheel and remove the steering covers. remember to adjust your steering wheel
to the lowest possible position possible as you are going to need the space
later on.
Now the steering cover has been removed you need
to unscrew the screws around the console it's self.
With the console exposed, remove the * screws that
hold the console in place, this is where it gets tricky.Carefully pull one
side (We did the left side) out, you will feel some resistance which is the
bar that controls the speedometer, this will give a limited area for you to
get your hand in and unclip the first of the three plugs that are behind the
console. Once you have unclipped the first plug push the left side back in
and pull the right side out, there you will find two plugs that must be unclipped. Now
you will be able to unclip the speedometer bar in the center and remove the
whole console.
Now you have the console separated from the car
remove the covers that protect the dials then remove the stoppers and needles,
remembering where the fuel dial is you will need this information later. Now
unscrew one of the dials (it doesn't matter which one). Place the dial into
your scanner as straight as possible (this can be tricky) scan the dial at
600 DPI to ensure a good quality scan, repeat the procedure with the other
dials.
Now you can edit the dials as you see fit but remember
DO NOT MOVE the points on the dials, you can change
there look but you MUST NOT MOVE them. Just in case
you did not understand this I will tell you again.
DO
NOT MOVE THE POINTS ON THE DIALS!
Once your happy with the new look of your dials
you can print them (Print at your printers best possible quality), for this
we used Glossy Photo card because it is very thick and printing looks very
good on them. Once printed you will need the craft knife to cut the templates
out (A ruler and patents is recommended when doing this).
Fit the new dials to the console and screw them
in place, now colour the needles with your permanent marker, reattach the stoppers
and needles (Remembering the fuel gage location). Now reattach the protective
covers that surround the console.
Place the console back in your car (remember to
put the plugs and speedometer cable back first), screw the covers back on,
lastly step back and enjoy your new dials.Warning: Because you have total
access to the console DO NOT be tempted to
roll back your clock this is illegal.
