Convert front door speakers from
6 by 4 to 6.5
This is a step by step on how to change the 6x4 two way
speakers that were put in to some of the P10's doors, you can change the size
to what ever you feel would fit but for the benefit of this guide we have
used 6.5 Infinity component speakers.
Tools Required:
- Phillips Screwdriver
- Electric jigsaw
- Self tapping crosshead screws
First you will need to remove you door panel by undoing
the screws and pulling out the poppers (See notice). Now you will need to
re cut the hole on the back of the door panel bigger to fit the new speaker,
remember that the speaker can only be the maximum of the old speaker cover.
NOTICE: there
is a screw behind the area where the window button would be (Circled in above
image) this must be undone before you can remove the door, also beware that
if you have a window button on your door don't pull to hard just pull the
panel off the door then unclip the window button.
Using your old speaker holder as a template
you must now cut a new holder from 1/4 MDF, this will be
the new bracket for the new speaker holder. Mark out the places where the
screw holes will have to be made.
Now using your new speaker holder as a template
you must now cut a new holder from 3/4 MDF. this will be
the new holder for the new speaker. Mark out the places where the screw will
go.
You should now have one rectangle cut from 1/4
MDF and one circle cut from 3/4 MDF.
Screw the two Pisces of wood together then screw the new
speaker holder to the new unit, you are now ready to test the fitting in the
door.
Here is a view of the back of the unit so you understand
how the two units are screwed together.
Here is the view of the speaker once installed on the door
Now you are ready to spray the MDF panels you have
cut out
It is recommended that you leave them over night to dry,
a washing line or similar is best for this because the panel should of been
sprayed all the way round
Lastly to make the speaker blend in with the car spray
the the wooden brackets black so they don't show up once you have put all
the door panel back, now replace the door panel and the job is done, you now
have component speakers or what ever you want instead of the 6x4's you started
with.
