Spotlight Car - WileeGT

I know this is late but remember better late than never. Anyway this month we pay homage to the P10 as it was ment to be ..... A great working car. So this month WileeGT Takes the stand and shows us all what our cars are really for and that is simply driving.

How dose it feel to you have a spotlight car?

It’s great to see my WileEgt featured as your first LHD P10. Makes him very proud (and his owner). I own several cars and this is the first time one has been featured – its really ‘book’ (as my eldest daughter would say…)

What is special about your car?

He is reliable! WileEgt is a two-owner car (I am the second) and he has a complete Nissan service history from new which is unusual. Bought from a main dealer in Toulouse for £2000 in 1999 with only 15000km on him. He has just crossed the 300,000km mark on the original engine. As I have mentioned elsewhere I keep Wile mechanically right up there, and clean him every couple of weeks (but not manically). He is used as my daily driver and is frequently blatting from Toulouse to Perpignan (about 500km round trip).

What was your best mod?

Probably the quick-shift and Momo race wheel. The shift makes changes much sweeter and you do not lose the revs so easily between shifts, and the wheel is simply lovely to hold when pressing on.

What was the hardest mod?

Fitting Poly Bushes and complete shock/spring replacement – nightmare to get the old ones out! That said,, the conversion has made the already excellent chassis sublime for a 4 seater FWD car.

What was your best buy?

Probably the OZ 16” super T’s. Bought new from Ireland for less than £400 all in including tyres and postage to Toulouse!

What was your worst buy?

Momo gear shift knob. Fell to bits (stitching) after a few thousand kms – sent it back to Momo and they sent it back with a free sticker saying that basically I had sweaty hands….grr. Ceremoniously set fire to the sticker with lighter fuel whilst drinking a Newcy Brown! Then carefully cut off the leather on the top of the knob (ooh er missus) to reveal a cool black plastic ‘top’ which has stayed – better than original!

What are you going to do next?

I would like to recover the original non-leather interior with black leather (drivers seat a little worn now). I also want to fit a complete straight-through stainless exhaust including manifold. When the engine eventually dies (so that will be in 10 years then…) I want to rebuild it to very fast road spec with all the bits and maybe fit a full cage too.

I am not into mega sounds in a car. I like to hear the engine….but have replaced the standard set up with macaudio speakers and a pioneer head unit with boot cd changer. I also have MP3 via my ipod and tuner attachment through stereo.

I like my WileEgt very much. It is an honest car and I enjoy climbing back into him evertime – like a very comfortable pair of shoes! I am quite fortunate in that I own a few fun cars (all white – I like the colour! - Caterham 7, Porsche boxter S) and a few non-fun ones (Renault van, Jag XJ3.2, Rolls Royce – business wagons!) but my P10 is the one that I rely on every day – you can throw anything at him and he comes out on top every time. A faithful friend that is terrific to drive – stonking value!

Thanks
